Funeral Collections

Holding a collection in memory of your loved one is a special way to commemorate their life while supporting people affected by arthritis. We can show you how to set up an online collection or help you collect and pay in donations from your funeral, service, wake or other remembrance event.

How to arrange a collection

There are several ways friends and family can donate to us and these are explained below.

The main thing to do is to make sure that everyone knows who your chosen charity is. You can add our details to announcements, the order of service or an online tribute page (further information below). Here is some information you may wish to include:

Versus Arthritis
Copeman House
St Marys Court
St Mary’s Gate
Chesterfield
Derbyshire
S41 7TD

www.versusarthritis.org

Tel: 0800 515 209 (donations line)

Registered Charity Nos. 207711, SC041156

And here’s a bit about us that you might find useful to include:

Versus Arthritis is the UK’s largest arthritis charity, changing lives through research, campaigning and support. We want everyone with arthritis to have access to the treatments and support they need to live the life they choose, with real hope of a cure in the future.

Wherever possible, we do ask the reason behind somebody’s donation to Versus Arthritis. This gives friends and family the opportunity to tell us who their kind donation is in memory of, and we can ensure their contribution goes towards your loved one’s collection.

Online tribute page

Having an online tribute page can be a quick and easy way to collect donations as well as sharing details of the funeral with friends and family. Your funeral director may arrange an online tribute page for you, or you can create your own personal page through our partners, MuchLoved.

You can include a map of where the service and/or wake will be held, add photos of your loved one along with their favourite music. Visitors to your tribute page can leave messages of condolence, light virtual candles and share memories.

Any donations made on your tribute page will come directly to us, so you don’t need to do anything.  And your tribute page will remain open which means you can use it as a place of remembrance and reflection for years to come.

You can view other tribute pages in our Tribute Garden

MuchLoved are our partners in hosting the Tribute Garden. All data that you provide will be handled in accordance with MuchLoved’s Privacy Policy

Any information you share will be held in strict confidence and will only be viewed within Versus Arthritis by staff who are directly responsible for managing your stories.

Creating your own online tribute fund is easy and once your page is set up, you can personalise it in the Tribute Settings.

Collection envelopes and boxes

We have specially designed donation envelopes and collection boxes you can use at a funeral, wake or memorial service to help collect donations. Or you can send the envelopes to those who cannot attend on the day. Friends and family can also Gift Aid their kind contribution which will increase the value of their donation by 25%.

Please contact Gill & Anna in our In Memory team by email inmemory@versusarthritis.org or by phone 0300 790 0406 if you would like to order any free collection envelopes or boxes. We can send them to you or to your funeral director.

How to send us donations

If your funeral director arranged the collection for you, they will also send the donations to us on your behalf.  Once we receive your kind gift, we will send you a thank you and confirmation of the collection total.  This will include donations that have been made directly to us.

It is quite common for funeral directors to wait a couple of months after the service before sending the collection to us, so please don’t worry if you don’t hear from us straight away.

If you have arranged the collection yourself and you have been given cash or cheques, there are several ways you can send everyone's contributions to us:

Cheques (made payable to Versus Arthritis) can be sent to us at:

Versus Arthritis
Copeman House
St Marys Court
St Mary’s Gate
Chesterfield
Derbyshire
S41 7TD

Please also include a cover letter so we know who the donations are in memory of and also where we can send a thank you to. Alternatively, you may wish to download our in-memory donation form .

Cash

We ask that you don’t send cash through the post. Instead, please keep the cash and make a personal donation to us of the same value. Here are some ways you can donate personally:

  • By cheque – please see above for details
  • Online – via our website
  • By phone – call 0800 515209 between 9am-5pm

Whichever option you choose, there will be an opportunity for you to tell us who your donation is in memory of.

Special requests

We know how important it can be to personalise donations given in someone's memory by directing them to a specific area of our work.

If you have a special request in how you would like your in-memory donations to be used, please contact Gill & Anna in our In Memory Team by email at inmemory@versusarthritis.org or by phone 0300 790 0406.  Where possible, we will do our utmost to carry out your wishes.
