People with arthritis are 20% less likely to be in work than those without arthritis.

How your input shaped our findings

At Versus Arthritis, we understand the impact arthritis can have on work capacity. We ensure this by listening to people with arthritis through our engagement; social media, local contact, free helpline, and online community forum.

We also carried out surveys and research to help us understand what could help improve work outcomes. Reports on the findings are available here.

As a result of this research, we have reviewed the work area of our website, providing useful work-related information for people living with arthritis, with guidance for employers and workplace professionals.

Additionally, we set up a small working group of people with arthritis and an occupational therapist to create a practical work adjustment plan. It has been designed to help anyone who has barriers to work identify what might make a difference to them.

The work adjustment plan

The work adjustment plan has been developed to assist individuals with arthritis to increase their knowledge of their condition and improve their capacity to self-manage it in a workplace setting.

The plan provides information and signposting on, diagnoses, managing treatment, keeping well, workplace rights, the Access to work scheme and reasonable adjustments. It is available in print and on our website.

Our aim is to help people with arthritis be better informed about work-related support, having access to practical tools and information resources to address work-related difficulties they experience.

We hope you will share the link to our work adjustment plan to those who may find it useful.
